The Secret of Forgiveness and Being Born Again 1
Published in Paperback by Good News Publishing House (20 April, 1997)
Authors: Pastor Ock Soo Park and Ock Soo
Average review score:

Making your own efforts to build up your own righteouss?
So did I. As most charitians, I had been trying so hard making my own efforts to build up my own righteousness (in front of God). I wanted to be recognized to Him for what I did. I had been self condemned whenever I felt that I was hopeless sinner and I was not meeting the requirements the laws of the Bible. I never gave a chance to Jesus to work for me. There was no rest in my life which Jesus promised to give me 2000 years ago. And I met this book.

This book reminded me and made me understand most important messages in the Bible which God gave us to save souls. It is not any kind of so called 'tweaked version' of the Bible. The messages have been always there in plain language and most of us were just passing by.

Read for once. You'll know.

The True Love send to me through his sermon from this book.
Previously, I was a buddist. Most of my life had been spent on buddhist religion. Four year ago, I also spent my life as a christian in the church. In that church, I found out one year later that it also a religion life to me. I realized that there are not different for me. There're still no peaceful in my heart, deep of my heart, I'm still looking for something; rest, peaceful, happiness. I found myself I have too much sin in my heart and have no way out. But now through the fact from the Bible, I found happiness, peaceful in my heart. Pastor Ock Soo Park explained about our heart precisely through the Words of God in the Bible. In this book, Pastor Ock Soo Park told us the nature of our heart. Since we all do not know our nature, that's why we all are suffer. The more we interfere our nature, the more we get suffer. This is the truth. So as long as we know our nature, there will be no problem at all. Faith do not come from 'try to believe', but from 'realize by your heart'. If you read this book and open your heart to it, you will find yourself realize it and finally gain happiness. This book is not talking about religion life, they are all the truth of human being. The message from this book is like the Good News for your life which you cannot find from anywhere else. I strongly recommend you to read it.

The secret is revealed
This book contains the words that seem to desrcibe in detail every aspect of the heart of every human being. I went to church since I was a kid and thought I knew what it meant to believe in Christ. I was taught to follow Jesus with my efforts and if I fell short, to just ask for forgiveness and try harder next time. Through many ups and downs, I slowly began to realize that a person like me could never fulfill the requirements that the laws in the Bible demand. This only brought condemnation to me and the guilty conscience which had only driven me farther away from church and God. This book doesn't tell you to do something, but shows in detail what Jesus Christ has done for us all. This book offers the only true rest for the souls of those wondering in this restless world. It may not be worded well, but the content is real and with out a doubt the most fascinating book I have ever read.

These Rare Lands: Images of America's National Parks
Published in Hardcover by Simon & Schuster (November, 1997)
Authors: Stan Jorstad, Mark Strand, and Robert Redford
Average review score:

Beautiful Pictures
A coffee table book sure to inspire you. This book was one of the things that really sparked my interest in nature photography. The stunning vistas and colors will capture your imagination and inspire you to travel to the beautiful places of this country!

Awe-Inspiring Photos
Jorstad's photographic review of each of America's 54 national parks is an absolutely amazing look at some of the most beautiful places in our country. Jorstad visited each park several times, during different seasons. His visits enabled him to capture the light of each park, and provides the reader with incredibly nuanced and beautiful panoramas of each location. The pictures are accompanied by a lovely, lyrical text.

Overall, this book is a great investment for armchair travelers who want to experience the wonders of nature. Very highly recommended.

Breathtaking pictures of nature's beauty
One of my favourite books with wonderful pictures by Stan Jorstad and intuitive texts by Mark Strand which helped me to understand more about the importance of the American National Park System and which overwhelmed me with its beauty. I was attempted to go there immediately and enjoy the pure beauty of nature again as I will surely do soon !

The Yellowstone Fly-Fishing Guide
Published in Paperback by The Lyons Press (May, 1997)
Authors: Craig Mathews and Clayton Molinero
Average review score:

3 years and still going
i have taken this book to me 3 years in a row that i've gone to yellowstone, and it has shown me where the fish are. This is the best fly-fishing guide i have ever seen. If you plan on fly-fishing Yellowstone seriously i highly reccomend this book.

Don't Leave Home Without It!
A very logically organized guide covering the lakes and streams of Yellowstone. With this book as a guide and real-time input from local fly shops, you should be well positioned for success.

The book will tell you where to fish, when to fish, and what patterns will likely be successful. A small investment for a potentially enormous return.

Yellowstone Media Group Inc. has a great new DVD, "Fly Fishing Yellowstone Hatches - DVD, that is also excellent.

THE book for fly-fishing Yellowstone....PERIOD!
Three years ago I bought this book from Craig Matthews at his store and everytime I go to Yellowstone I STILL use it. Of all the fly fishing books I have about where to fish this one is the best by far.

Craig tells in DETAIL about no only WHERE the fish are, but what to use at that time of year and what fish are in the water.

If you are planning on fishing in Yellowstone..then this is your book!

Yosemite Trout Fishing Guide (In Full Color)
Published in Paperback by Frank Amato Publications, Inc. (01 January, 2001)
Authors: Charles S. Beck and Steve Beck
Average review score:

Great Reference for Planning a Backpack Trip for Novices
The beauty of Yosemite is beyond words. Simply touring the most frequented spots gives one a sense of awe. After taking my 3 sons there for a first time visit, I wanted to plan a short backpack/fishing trip for them to enjoy a more in-depth experience with Yosemite. They were anxious to experience Yosemite more thoroughly. The Yosemite Trout Fishing Guide was just the resource I needed to plan the trip. The details in the book were incredible. It was obvious the author has a thorough knowledge of Yosemite, not to mention deep love and respect for the natural wonder of Yosemite. This is a good reference book to have on Yosemite.

An excellent guide.
I have had the opportunity of exploring some of the areas described in this well written guide. Although no words could do the beauty of the region justice, Steve Beck does an excellent job of getting you there to see it for yourself. I found his descriptions right on the money and his recommendations well worth following. I highly recommend this guide to all fisher-people, especially if you have the opportunity to go to Yosemite.

Fro novice and expert alike
Thorough and authoritative, readable and entertaining. I know Steve personally and can vouch for the extensive research that went into making this rewarding guide. He has fished the Park top to bottom and roadside to trailside. This book is a compilation of almost two decades of love with Yosemite and the art of fly-fishing. His complete trailside descriptions ensure that getting to the fish is as much a pleasure as the fun once there. The accuracy of Steve's fishing information has stood the test of numerous presentations to fly-fishing clubs and sportsman shows. Am I biased? Undoubtedly, but that doesn't mean what I say isn't true. Check it out yourself- this is a great guide for novice (that's me) and expert alike. Steve also has a new book on fishing the John Muir Trail coming out this Feb. I suspect it will prove to be just as entertainig a read and useful a guide for that famous "walk".

Palisades Amusement Park: A Century of Fond Memories
Published in Hardcover by Rutgers University Press (November, 1995)
Authors: Vince Gargiulo, Edward Malillo, and Richard H. Haufe
Average review score:

Reminiscin'
While "Palisades Amusement Park" might not be a book everyone would enjoy, it meant a great deal to me. I grew up in New Jersey, where this park was located and went there often as a child. The bus company where my Dad was employed provided free passes, which encouraged us to go. When it was destroyed, to erect a condo, my heart was broken, as I knew my daughter and grandchildren would never know the excitement I felt when I first rode the Cyclone at Palisades Park. Through this book, I was able to share some of my experiences with them. Even my son-in-law, who grew up in Georgia, enjoyed it, as history is one of his interests. If you are into historic sites or ever went to Palisades Park when you were young, I think this is a wonderful trip into the past.

PALISADE AMUSEMENT PRK; A CENTURY OF MEMORIES
ITS GREAT. BROUGHT BACK ALOT OF MEMORIES.DIDNT CARE FOR CONEY ISLAND THO. TOO MANY PICTURES AND THAT ALL IT WAS

Fantastic! A stroll down memory lane for a jersey boy
This book was absolutely fantastic. I was 10 years old when Palisades park closed. I had vague reminiscences tucked away in the recesses of my mind of the many times I'd visited the park with my parents and grandparents. This book jogged them all loose in a wonderful cascade of memories. The book was cleverly written and well organized into the various epochs in the parks history. There were many interesting facts given, of which I was previously unaware. The book had a generous assortment of vintage photographs. My only wish (and this is no criticism of the book or author) was that the older pictures could have had better clarity, as I found myself desperately trying to get into the "way-back machine." Understandably, these were old, vintage photos and some graniness was therefore unavoidable. But I found myself clinging to each photo as memories would unfold. There was a nice set of color photos also included which were very vivid. I wish there could have been even more. My overall impression is that anyone who was ever lucky enough to have passed through the gates of this great american park will cherish this book.It was worth 100 times the amount I purchased it. I bought another copy for my mother. This is a book that anyone would love. Mr. Gargiulo; Thank you so much!

Splash Hit! Pac Bell Park
Published in Hardcover by Chronicle Books (December, 1901)
Authors: Joan Walsh and C. W. Nevins
Average review score:

Introducing The Most Beautiful Ballpark In Creation
Every fan of the the Giants should get this book and wallow in the beauty of Pacific Bell Park, if you can't get there yourself. The park really is probably the most beautiful ballpark in baseball, a tiny little gem that nevertheless plays like a huge pitcher's stadium thanks to the bizarre asymmetry of its outfield (and a San Francisco wind that the park's engineering turned into an ally, instead of the vicious Hawk it was at Candlestick Park.)

But it's also a great collection of essays from baseball writers including George Will and Peter Gammons, and local writers sharing memories of the team and the long years of waiting in the cold and fog for a world championship that still hasn't come. Those essays are some of the best parts of the book, moving and nostalgic in the best sense.

The body text, that tracks the long road from New York through Candlestick to the drama of building a new ballpark without the safety net of public money, then chronicles the great 2000 season, is little more than acceptable, but in a coffee table book what you want is gorgeous photographs and insightful vignettes, and "Splash Hit" has that in aces.

Awesome
Great pictures of what has to be one of the nicest sports facilities in the world. I've been to one game here - and as a resident of Seattle, I honestly think that Safeco is a better place to watch a game. However, no stadium can match the asthetic views and its situation in one of the most beautiful cities in the world makes Pac Bell #1.

A Great Book For A Great Ball Park
Pac Bell Park is one of the newest and one of the best ball parks in America. This book is a great tribute to that new park and the Giants' first year playing in it. The book goes into the history and politics behind the park and has a lot of good pictures of the 2000 Giants players in action. Peter Magowan and local and national writers also added illuminating essays to the text. There are a lot of spectacular pictures of the park from all different angles and some interesting construction shots.

A little disappointing was that the book did not have much on the Polo Grounds, Seals Stadium, and Candlestick Park. Even though the Giants no longer play at the old parks, their history is indelibly intertwined with the newer ball park and they deserved more space.

This belongs on any Giants fan's coffee table, especially if they have visited the park.

The Trailer Park Princesses
Published in Paperback by Annick Pr (March, 2000)
Authors: Pete Marlowe and Leanne Franson
Average review score:

We All Deserve the Royal Treatment
Rebecca and Jane remember that they were once princesses in a faraway land until one night a terrible earthquake shook them and their queenly mother through time and space, dropping them into the trailer park where they live now. Unfortunately, their mother bumped her head on their journey and has forgotten she is a queen. It is only when they share their secret with an elderly neighbor that Jane and Rebecca realize that they may not be the only secret princesses, with or without queen mothers, in the area. There may even be a prince or two hiding nearby.

Delighted readers will realize as soon as Jane and Rebecca do, that whether or not someone remembers his or her true status, it never hurts to give them the royal treatment.

Leanne Franson's charming illustrations enhance this gentle story. Highly recommended for preschoolers to first grade.

great book
I bumped my head...once..and ended up in a magical far away land..much like this one....with princesses, ponds and a family of ducks, a bridge..rainbows..whales...banished by the wicked queen though..to a remote island...this has a much better ending..
I enjoyed this book immensely

Pete's sister's review
The Trailer Park Princesses was a long-awaited book (by me,anyway) and succeeded my greatest expectations. I was thrilled by theimaginative storyline which evoked such vivid images in my mind. The illustrations translated the words in perfect detail-Leanne Fransen did a wonderful job and should continue to illustrate this autho's further works.

Utah's Favorite Hiking Trails

Average review score:

This book has it all...
great descriptions of the hike, recommendations on best seasons, really good maps, wonderful colour photographs, comprehensive driving directions and easy USGS quad map referenes - could it even be better than the incredible California Hiking? I bought Canyoneering the San Rafael Swell as well, and am sending it back because this book covers what I need in a much easier to read style - and is less likely to get me killed en route while rock climbing without a belay. Highly recommended.

WHO KNEW!
Who knew there were so many great hikes local to the Wasatch Front? And it gets better than that, this book has a hike for every season and every day of the year. From easy to difficult, senic to exercisic, you'll never get bored in Utah again. This book offers some of the tradional hikes Utah is know for plus many hidden treasures. At first I was a bit overwhelmed and didn't know where to start. There were so many interesting sites I wanted to do them all. Having done quite a few now I can't wait to do more. And you'll never get tired of the views, you can do your favorites hikes again and again, try one in summer and in winter. The book als has great descriptions of the plants and animals native to the area. So take it along and lean about your suroundings in a quite medow or under a shade tree. A must for the hiking enthusiest!

A wealth of valuable information
Anyone intending to do any amount of hiking in Utah, whether it be for a day or an overnight trip, will find David Days' "Utah's Favorite Hiking Trails" an invaluable source of information! The layout and design of the book aids in pre-trip planning. Included are detailed trail maps for each hike, an extensive index, a rating of each hike by the author and a clear and definitive description of the route of the trail. Along with the maps and numerous black and white pictures, the author includes two multi-page groups of color photographs of the areas listed in the Guide. My wife and I found these to be very motivational and inspiring and are looking forward to our return trip to Utah to visit many of the areas Mr. Day lists in his book. I have seen and used many trail guides over the years and find "Utah's Favorite Hiking Trails" to be among the best and would highly recommend it to anyone planning a trip to Utah.

Venus
Published in Paperback by Dramatist's Play Service (December, 1998)
Author: Suzan-Lori Parks
Average review score:

Parks plays with stereotypes again.
So who was the Venus Hottentot, anyway? And what is this play about? Not an historical play (although it includes archival material), Parks gets to the stereotype of black female sexuality, while asking questions about our complicity in our own oppression. This allegorical work raises questions about the use of Baartman (the real "Venus Hottentot") as an icon for contemporary black female sexuality, among other things. If nothing else, this play may well have you looking up other information on Baartman.

Rides roughshod over sexual boundaries
Venus's terrifyingly ambivalent character is gradually exposed throughout the course of this short yet explosive piece of experimental erotica. It would be all too easy to write this off as a drugsploitation piece, but a deeper truth is revealed by the powerful combinations of peyote and yage which the Doctor administers to his (initially) unwilling young patients, turning them into voracious, yet compliant, sexual zombies.

I found this book powerfully arousing - the Doctor is the very epitome of the fin-de-siecle cult leader, with a monstrous sexual appetite to match his towering charisma - and yet a surprising intellectual challenge. I recommend it to broad-minded adults everywhere.

Well worth putting your hand in your pocket for - I did!
I must say that I thoroughly enjoyed reading this play. It took several attempts, as I frequently became 'overwhelmed' due to the stimulating nature of the material - and you know how it is after getting 'overwhelmed'...you just don't want to read on any more. Anyway, this is very high-class stuff indeed, and compares favourably (on a purely artistic level, of course) with such luminaries of the art as Georges Bataille and (particularly) Russ Meyer.
